Here in Australia it is really easy to find my tent. Just follow the signs. Posted by Picasa

AFFF Day One

The Australian Free Flight Festival is a different format of competion. All of the flying is open distance utilizing the online contest point system to rank flights. It is a 4 day meet with the best 3 scores counting in your total placing. Today was very windy with some pretty extreme gusts. When I close my eyes freight trains come to mind. My attention was more focused on glider tweaking so I just took a short flight out into the valley. I was suprised at how rough the edges were and how broken up the lift was. I think I am the girlie man around here because not many other guys admit to finding the air overly rough.

Blue skies and really high temperatures ruled the day. I don't ever remember it getting this hot up here in the high country.

In Oz

Its time to resume posting to the blog again. Anything I have seems so boring unless I am traveling and competing. Last week I got some new gliders in the mail from Will Wing for Andreas and I. It was exciting getting a good look at our toys for the next batch of competitions. Christmas Eve Mel and I sweet talked a compassionate United Gate agent into letting us check the monstrous beasts onto our flight and away we went. 24 hours later we are now hanging out with Peter and his lovely family in Melbourne Australia. Because we crossed the internation date line we actually skipped december 25th. Took off on the 24th and landed on the 26th.

Tomorrow I will start assembling the wings. The air smells like Australia and it brings back many fond memories of good times and great flying.
